Academic Attire

Commencement regalia consists of our custom brown cap and tassel and a gown with gold-embroidered Adelphi seal and the colored hood of your discipline. Recipients of associate degrees do not wear hoods.

All attire must be ordered online. If you order your attire before April 6, 2020, you can choose to either pick up your attire on campus during our grad pickup days or have it shipped to your home for an additional fee.

The last day to order attire so that it can be shipped to your home address in time for the ceremony is May 1, 2020.

Grad Pickup Days

Adelphi students can pick up attire orders and MarchingOrder cards on the following dates:

  • Manhattan Center students: mid-May
  • Hauppauge Center students: May 12, 2020
  • Hudson Valley students: you will be contacted by Debbie Perez when their attire and MarchingOrder card is ready for pick up.

Honor Cords and Stoles

Various organizations and departmental honor societies have stoles and/or cords available for their cohort. Graduates should reach out to any organizations they belonged to on campus to see if they participate.

Currently, Adelphi does not provide cords or stoles for Latin Honors. Anticipated Latin Honors are noted next to each graduate’s name in the program.

Tassel—right or left?

Just remember: “Left when you leave”

Tassels go on the right side of your cap before you graduate. Near the end of the main ceremony, President Riordan will announce the conferring of degrees and instruct you to “Move your tassels!” You and your classmates will shift your tassels to the left side.

Master’s Degrees and Advanced Certificates

Tassels begin on the left side since you’ve already earned your undergrad degree. No need to move your tassel.
